Guatemala or Bust!

The whole "Never the Same" missions team should be in Guatemala by now. Everyone flew out of Miami yesterday. My drama queen called from the airport in Miami to let me know that they had made it through security and everything was a "go". This may have been the last chance she will have to call since her cell phone won't work in Guatemala. Hopefully, she can check in via email.

Tuesday and Wednesday were spent in Miami for training. The bulk of that time was spent on drama training. Two days is a very short time to put together an entire drama, costumes, the whole nine yards and have it ready to perform.....but they did it! My drama queen seemed really happy with how it was coming together and she is quite picky in the drama department. (Not so much in the clean your room department.:)) Anyway, she did say that they were all getting bruised and battered. At one point in the play they have made a people pyramid and then the "bad guys" roll a ball into them and they all come crashing down. She said that they are supposed to "stage fall" but that when you are in a pyramid once you start falling.........she did mention that the floor is hard. HA!

Thursday the focus was just to get everyone to Guatemala. Not an easy feat I'm sure.

As I was reading one of the other kid's blog she mentioned that she was drinking Airborne to try to avoid getting sick. Some of the kids are starting out sick. Please pray for them and that the others in the group can stay healthy. Another girl asked for prayer that they would constantly be reminded of Joshua 1:9. I love this passage! (Possibly because I tend to be such a chicken.)

God is speaking to Joshua and He tells him:

Joshua 1:6-9 "Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them. Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

Thank you, Lord.

  1. It sounds like she's already having fun, and I'm sure making wonderful friends. I'm praying for their health & courage & for divine appointments to be prepared for them!

  2. Melody, when Elise was in India, she took a Pepto Bismol every day. The bismuth is a natural antibiotic and she never got sick (tummy wise). She did however call one day scared to death. She told us she thought she was swallowing bugs at night because her tongue was black! She was almost hysterical because she HATES bugs! After we wiped tears of laughter off our faces, we told her that we had forgotten to let her know that Pepto has a nasty side effect - black tongues (again the bismuth)! It has become one of those "family stories" now! Anyway, thought I would share that. If they are still in an area to get some, they should all take it daily.

  3. Loretta- I LOVE those family stories!! Thanks for the info. I sent Pepto with Jen just in case. I'll have her start taking it. It was on the list of things they recommended that everyone bring so they may have enough to go around. I may not share the black tongue thing just yet.:)

C.Beth- Thanks so much for the prayers!

  4. I guess those gymnastics lessons are coming in handy now. It's helpful to know how to hit the floor! :) Praying, praying for health, safety and mighty opportunities to impact eternity.
